Last Updated: Sep 15, 2017

The InfiPlex Webstore includes a built-in Google Merchant feed. This feed works in conjuction with the Google Merchant Center which helps you upload your product listings for use with Google Shopping.

Google Merchant Set-up

Follow the steps below to set-up your Google Merchant feed:

  • You will need a Google Merchant account to use the service. You can review the Beginner's Guide to get started with the service.
  • In your webstore's admin area, navigate to Shop > Settings > Miscellaneous tab. You will need to set-up the following settings:
    • google_merchant_product_feed_enabled: Set this to yes to turn it on.
Your feed URL is listed in the instructions for this setting.
    • google_merchant_product_feed_default_brand: This is your default Brand name in case a product does not have a brand associated to it. Brand is a required field in the Google Merchant feed.
    • If you do not see these settings, please run system updates to make sure your site has installed the latest updates.
  • Set the Google Merchant Category ID for each webstore category you want to activate in the feed:
    • Go to Shop > Products > Categories
    • Select a category and update the Google Merchant Category field with the appropriate ID number. You can find your Google Merchant ID here.
    • Click the green Save button to save the new Google Merchant Category ID number.
  • Set the Google Merchant Product Description:
    • Each product has a separate field for the Gooogle Feed Product Description. These descriptions should be edited using the product edit page or you can mass load these descriptions using the Shop > Tools > SKU Utilities upload.
    • Shop > Tools > SKU Utilities upload: in the Google Feed row, select the option to Set Google Feed Product Description. Then upload your .csv file with two columns - sku, google_feed_description. This will set Google feed description for the uploaded SKUs.
    • Click the green Save button to upload the file and Save the feed descriptions.
  • Required fields for Google Merchant Feed that the system includes. Please note that if any of these items are missing in your data, that sku will generate an error in your feed.
    • title: the system will automatically pull the title associated to the product.
    • description: should be a text description without any links.
    • link: the system will auto generate this link.
    • image_link: the system will auto generate this link.
    • availability: the system will auto generate this based on your stock levels.
    • price: the system will auto generate this based on your price available to everyone.
    • google_product_category: the system will auto generate this based on the Google Merchant Category ID you add to each category. This must be done in order for any products to get listed.
    • brand: this is based on your brand setting for the product.
    • gtin: this your products Global Trade Item Number (GTIN). The system uses the SKU number for this value. A future update will use the UPC code if available.
    • mpn: this your products Manufacturer Part Number (mpn). The system uses the SKU number for this value. A future update will use the UPC code if available.
    • condition: the system sets all products as new.
    • You can view the Google Merchant Center Product data specifications for more information.
  • Setting Google Merchant Attributes:
Some of your products/SKUs will have associated Product Data Options like size or color that you will need to include as part your Google merchant feed. To do this, you will need to set the Google Merchant Attribute when editing a Product Data Option. Product Data Options allow a parent SKU to have associted child SKU's with product options like size and color. These Product Options are then used to add the associated data to the Google Merchant feed for each individual SKU. You will find your Product Options in the Shop > Product Data > Product Options area.
  • Register your feed in your Google Merchant account. The feed is an XML feed.
  • The Shop Cron will rebuild the xml file on a daily basis around 1 AM CST. In the Setting Shop > Settings > Miscellaneous settings area you will see a link in the google_merchant_product_feed_enabled description. Copy this link into a browser to be redirected to the actual xml file generated by the system. You can then use that URL to submit to Google. The URL ends in google_product_feed.xml. Do not submit the redirect url to Google.

Product Requirements

The feed will automatically pull all products from webstore categories that have a Google Merchant Category ID. However, products will only display in the feed if they meet the following criteria:

  • The product must have an image associated to it. See this help article for miminum image requirements.
  • The product must be assigned to a category that has an associated Google Merchant Category ID.
  • The product must have an active price that is purchasable by everyone. If a product only has pricing availble to a secure price group, it will NOT appear on the feed.
