The News Application is a date based application that displays announcements, news, and/or graphics in accordance with the start and end dates of the News item.  The Abstract of current news items are displayed on the news.php page of a website. By clicking on the news item title, the viewer would be routed to the Content of that News item. This content window is where you would put the details, images, etc. pertaining to your news item.  You can link directly to the content of a news item by assigning it a friendly URL and then linking to that friendly URL.

You can set up different categories of News items using the Category Add tab of Categories option on the News dashboard. The viewer will then be able to filter the News items (on the news.php page) to be just those of a particular category.

As long as the Publish Start and Publish End dates are current and the news item is set to active, the News item will appear on the news.php page.

Any one of the following methods will stop a News item from appearing on the website.

• set it to inactive
• expire the Publish Date End
• delete the item

The image that is uploaded via the meta image field will be the image that is used if someone shares the news item via social media.  Check facebook developer tools if you are having difficulty sharing items. There are recommended and minimum requirements for image sizes. As of this post, the recommended size for the image is 1200 x 630 px and the minimum is 200 x 200 px.

Please note that many templates have a customized the News application for a custom purpose of using a date based system. Such as having a page display only a particular category of news items, only displaying the abstract, etc. For questions regarding the customization that this article doesn't resolve, please open a support ticket.
