Target Integration FAQs: EDI vendor orders, zero grace period for errors
Target runs one of the most demanding vendor compliance programs in retail: full EDI capability is required from your very first purchase order, and its On-Time Fill Rate (OTFR) program fines a percentage of cost of goods sold for missed windows or fill-rate misses. The InfiPlex™ Inventory & Order Management System (OMS) connects your Target vendor relationship so purchase orders pull in automatically, the EDI documents Target requires go out on time, and your inventory stays synced with every other retailer you supply.
The InfiPlex Target integration connects your approved Target vendor relationship to the InfiPlex Inventory & Order Management System over EDI. Purchase orders pull in automatically, shipments ship from your warehouse or 3PL, and the acknowledgment, ASN, and invoice documents Target requires post back — while your inventory stays synced with every other channel you supply.
Yes — Target works through approved vendor relationships established via Target Partners Online (POL) and a signed Conditions of Contract, not a self-serve signup. InfiPlex connects that EDI relationship once you're approved and Target has issued your onboarding requirements; InfiPlex doesn't manage the vendor approval process itself.
No — Target requires full EDI capability before your first purchase order is even processed. Unlike some retailers that ease vendors in, Target expects complete, accurate EDI transactions from day one, which is exactly why getting the connection right during onboarding matters.
Our USA-based team configures the EDI connection with you during onboarding, mapping the specific documents (850 purchase orders, 855 acknowledgments, 856 ASNs, 810 invoices, and others) Target requires, and coordinating Target's mandatory certification testing before you go live.
Your OMS site is provisioned within 1–2 business days, and EDI trading-partner setups generally take longer than a standard marketplace connection because Target's certification testing is involved. Our team scopes the specific timeline once we see your Target onboarding packet.
Section 2 of 5 · Order flow & compliance
Order Management & OTFR Compliance
How Target EDI orders move into InfiPlex, and how the OMS protects your fill-rate score.
InfiPlex pulls EDI 850 purchase orders from Target approximately every 15 minutes, landing in the same queue as your other retailer and marketplace orders, ready to route to a warehouse or 3PL.
Yes — the 855 acknowledgment must go out within 24–48 hours of receiving the 850, and InfiPlex automates that response so delays don't flag your account for review or slow Target's planning process.
On-Time Fill Rate (OTFR) is Target's primary supply chain performance program, measuring whether you shipped the right product, in the right quantity, at the right time — with fines calculated as a percentage of cost of goods sold for misses. InfiPlex automates exactly the mechanics OTFR scores: on-time ASN transmission, accurate fill rates against the original 850, and inventory that reflects what you can actually ship.
Yes — Target's 856 spec requires hierarchical shipment data (pallet to pack to item) and SSCC-18 license-plate barcodes matching your case labels; InfiPlex generates ASNs to that specification once a shipment is created.
Yes — the OMS routes Target orders to a connected 3PL or WMS via the 3PL Connector, with the required EDI documents generated automatically once the 3PL ships.
That's the core of the product: Target joins the same order queue as Costco, Home Depot, and 130+ other integrations, so your team works from one screen instead of Target Partners Online alone.
Section 3 of 5 · Stock control
Inventory Sync & Availability
How InfiPlex keeps your Target commitments accurate against every other channel.
InfiPlex maintains one master inventory pool, and every sale on any channel — Target, another retailer, or your own webstore — updates available quantities everywhere in real time, which is what prevents committing stock to a Target PO you can't actually ship.
Yes — where your vendor agreement calls for proactive inventory availability updates via EDI 846, InfiPlex's real-time inventory pool feeds that document automatically.
Use the built-in Inventory Tool for direct edits, the Inventory Upload tool for spreadsheet-based changes, scheduled FTP feeds, or automated pulls from supplier systems. One update propagates to Target and every other connected channel.
Yes — the OMS tracks stock across multiple warehouses and 3PLs and routes orders to the right source, which matters when Target's routing guide specifies particular distribution center assignments.
Section 4 of 5 · Two Target programs
Target DVS Vendor vs. Target Plus, Explained
Target has two very different seller relationships — make sure this hub is the one you need.
As a 1P direct vendor, Target buys your product and resells it — orders arrive as traditional EDI purchase orders to a distribution center. Target Plus is a separate, invite-only marketplace where approved third-party sellers list and fulfill their own orders directly on Target.com through an API integration, not EDI. This hub covers the EDI vendor relationship; see the Target Plus FAQ hub for the marketplace program.
Yes — some suppliers sell wholesale to Target as an EDI vendor while also running a Target Plus seller account for products or SKUs Target doesn't stock directly. InfiPlex connects both relationships independently while sharing the same inventory pool.
Target DVS specifically refers to Target's dropship division, where suppliers fulfill and ship orders directly to online consumers rather than replenishing a distribution center in bulk. It's a distinct EDI relationship from bulk DC replenishment, with its own document flow, though both run over the same core EDI transaction set.
If you receive bulk purchase orders shipped to a Target distribution center, you're a standard 1P vendor; if you receive orders for individual consumer shipments sent directly from your facility, you're likely in the DVS program. Some suppliers run both. Your Target buyer or vendor onboarding documentation will specify which applies.
Yes — InfiPlex configures each Target relationship to its specific document requirements and shipping rules, whether that's DVS dropship or bulk DC replenishment, or both simultaneously.
Section 5 of 5 · Plans & costs
Target Integration Pricing & Plans
What connecting Target to InfiPlex costs, and which plan fits.
Target connects on every InfiPlex plan as a standard EDI trading-partner connection. Basic Starter is $49.99/month with up to 2,000 SKUs at $0.50 per order; Growth Starter is $499.99/month with 10,000 SKUs and 1,000 orders included ($0.10 per additional order); Growth Pro is $999.99/month with 100,000 SKUs and 10,000 orders included ($0.05 per additional order). Full details are on the Pricing page.
EDI connections may carry retailer-required VAN costs depending on your specific setup (Target works with SPS Commerce, TrueCommerce, and other VANs, or direct AS2 connections), though InfiPlex can often significantly reduce or eliminate those costs compared to a standalone EDI provider.
Vendors managing several EDI trading partners — Target, Costco, Home Depot, and others — often fit well on Growth Starter or Growth Pro, both of which include ERP connections like NetSuite on Growth Pro for reconciling wholesale volume against your books.
Growth packages carry a 3-month minimum commitment and Partner packages a 12-month term; Basic Starter is month-to-month. Schedule a demo and we'll scope the right plan against your Target relationship and overall EDI trading-partner mix.
Yes — our team coordinates the document mapping and test transactions Target's certification environment requires before you can go live, which is typically the most time-consuming step for first-time Target vendors.
Connect the rest of your stack
Pair Target with the systems you already run
InfiPlex connects Target with 130+ marketplaces, carts, shipping platforms, 3PLs, WMS, and ERP systems — and our Growth Packages include building new API integrations you need at no additional cost.
Target's vendor program has no onboarding grace period — you must be fully EDI-capable before your first live purchase order, and its OTFR compliance program measures on-time shipping and fill rate down to the percentage point, with fines calculated against cost of goods sold. InfiPlex pulls Target purchase orders into the same queue as your other retailers, generates the acknowledgment and ASN documents Target's timing windows require, and keeps your inventory synced so you never commit stock you can't ship.
The InfiPlex Target sync rail: EDI purchase orders flow into the OMS, ship to Target's distribution centers from your warehouse or 3PL, and return the acknowledgment, ASN, and invoice documents Target's OTFR program requires on strict timing windows — while inventory stays reconciled across every retailer you supply.
