Routing modes

Two ways an order reaches CastleGate

One rule holds regardless of which mode is active: the order line has to originate from an InfiPlex warehouse that is actually associated with CastleGate. Under pooled sync, that means the single pooled warehouse; under 1:1 sync, it means whichever specific CastleGate warehouse the order was allocated to. An order line pulled from a warehouse with no CastleGate association simply is not eligible to route there in either mode.

When one order becomes several

Split shipments across CastleGate warehouses

Because 1:1 sync tracks CastleGate warehouses individually, InfiPlex's routing rules can allocate different lines of the same order to different CastleGate warehouses, whichever facility actually holds each item. When that happens, the single marketplace order becomes multiple CastleGate sub-orders behind the scenes, one per warehouse involved, each shipping and tracking independently. Once each sub-order ships, its tracking number is synced back correctly to the original marketplace order, so the buyer and the marketplace both see accurate shipment information even though the fulfillment happened out of more than one physical location.

This is the direct payoff of 1:1 sync at the order level: a pooled connection has no way to know that two different CastleGate warehouses are involved, so it cannot split intelligently in the first place. The 1:1 vs pooled sync guide covers why that visibility exists only under 1:1 sync.

Catching partial routing

An alert for mixed-source orders

A separate situation from a CastleGate-internal split is a marketplace order that contains some items destined for CastleGate and others fulfilled from a different source entirely, your own warehouse, a different 3PL, or dropship. InfiPlex can send an alert email whenever an order like that is only partially routed to CastleGate, so operations staff are aware a single customer order is shipping from more than one origin and can watch for it to arrive complete on the buyer's end.

A setting to know about

Quantity shipped versus quantity ordered

When tracking information comes back from CastleGate, InfiPlex can either report the actual quantity shipped, or force the shipped quantity to always equal what was sent to CastleGate in the first place. Forcing the two to match is available as a setting but is not the recommended default, since it can mask a real partial shipment from CastleGate as if it had gone out complete. It exists for situations where a marketplace or downstream system cannot handle a shipped quantity that differs from the ordered quantity, not as a general-purpose setting.
